One of the things I love most about being a photographer is getting to grow with my clients. Sometimes someone books you for one session, you deliver their gallery, and that's where the story ends. But every once in a while, you get lucky enough to have a client who keeps coming back, and you get to watch their life change right in front of you.
Jessie is one of those clients for me.
We started with her graduation pictures, and at the time, I obviously had no idea how many more times I'd get to photograph her and her family. What started as one session has turned into years of memories and so many different seasons of their lives.
I've photographed her family, her brother and sister-in-law, her husband's family, and her nephew's first birthday. I've photographed Jessie and her husband throughout their relationship, from their engagement to her bridal portraits to their wedding day. I've gotten to photograph both sides of their families and watch everyone grow and change along the way.
And somehow, the wedding wasn't the end of it.
I've continued getting to photograph her husband's family, and then came another really special chapter—Jessie and her husband starting their own family. Getting to take their maternity pictures was such a full-circle moment for me. I couldn't help but think back to those first graduation pictures and how much life had happened since then.
That's what I love about this job.
Yes, I love taking beautiful pictures. I love finding pretty light, beautiful locations, and creating images that people will have for years. But more than that, I love the relationships that come from it. I love when clients come back. I love getting to catch up with them and hear what's new. I love seeing their kids grow, meeting new family members, and getting excited when they reach out because there's another milestone to photograph.
At some point, they stop feeling like clients and start feeling like people I know and genuinely care about.
And I think that's one of the greatest gifts photography has given me.
Jessie, looking back at everything I've gotten to photograph for you and your family, I am so incredibly thankful that you've continued to trust me with these moments. From your graduation, to your engagement, your bridal portraits, your wedding, and now your maternity pictures, I've gotten to watch so many important chapters of your life unfold.
And I hope I get to keep photographing the chapters that come next.
Because clients really do become family, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
I'm so thankful for the families who keep coming back, who trust me with their memories, and who let me be a small part of their lives. Those relationships are the reason I love what I do so much.
The pictures are the part you get to keep forever, but getting to be there along the way?
That's the part that means the most to me.
